Aeras Global unveils new TB vax facility
The nonprofit Aeras Global TB Vaccine Foundation in Rockville, MD has opened the doors to a new manufacturing facility that has the capacity to satisfy the worldwide demand for TB vaccine.
The 9,000-square-foot center is on the second floor of its Research Boulevard building and can deliver 200 million doses a year of its new TB jab. Aeras says that the facility can achieve higher levels of vaccine purification, making both injectable and inhalable versions of the vaccine. The foundation will add 25 new employees to its 138-person staff as it gears up production. Aeras gets most of its funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
"This is not just pilot production," Aeras CEO Jerald Sadoff told the Washington Business Journal. "We can make things that can be actually sold."
