Despite its prevalence around the world and ongoing research, attempts to find an AIDS cure have been fruitless. Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) researchers think the inability to find an effective AIDS vaccine may come down to not finding the right virus strain to make one. Dr. Louis Picker, associate director of the OHSU Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute, describes the situation as analogous to, of all things, "Goldilocks and the Three Bears." "The field was looking for a vaccine that was 'not too hot,' or 'not too cold,' but 'just right,'" he said.
