Australia approves a new bird flu vaccine

Australian officials have approved a bid flu vaccine developed by CSL. And the government announced a $160 million budget to stockpile additional vaccines to help protect the country from an outbreak. The vaccine will only be used in the event of a pandemic.

Australian government officials appeared to be particularly pleased that they could stockpile a vaccine developed inside the country. According to CSL, Panvax can be adjusted to provide protection against any emerging pandemic. Experts note that the bird flu virus will need to mutate into a new strain in order to spread swiftly among people.
