Gates: Ignoring malaria vax work was "criminal"
Addressing a group of students at MIT, Bill Gates took a moment in his talk to address the priorities every society faces--or fails to face. Malaria kills about a million people every year, he said, but only about 100 scientists are devoted to finding a vaccine to reduce that annual death toll (and many of those researchers are working with money from his foundation). If society had committed to finding a malaria vaccine a decade ago, he added, one would already exist. Added Gates: "It's criminal that we didn't work on a malaria vaccine." Story
