Scientists easily create hybrid virus
A simple, single gene swap was all it took to create a hybrid bird and swine flu virus, according to an international team of scientists. Dr. Yoshihiro Kawaoka, professor of pathobiological sciences in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, says that the prospect of a bird/swine flu virus--which would be much more lethal than the current pandemic--makes it essential for close global monitoring of new outbreaks.
